The Pearl Microplastics Bag

We shed half a billion tons of microplastics into the ocean every year – just by washing our clothes! That's equivalent to 50 million plastic water bottles.

It's no secret that that lots of the plastic products that we use end up in the sea. It might be a surprise that much of this comes from our clothes. Around 60% of clothing consists of synthetic fabrics or at least a mix of natural and synthetic ones. When synthetic materials start to break down, they shed and release microplastics.

Why we need to care about the ocean and what goes in it

Oceans cover over 70% of our planet's surface and hold 97% of earth’s water, so you can imagine how important these ecosystems are to the health of our planet and its inhabitants.
